If Obama Wins We Will Live In A Vastly different World

Obama’s vision is far from that of Founding Fathers

by Star Parker

“Pushing back on accusations from John McCain that he’s a socialist, Barack Obama said, “I don’t know what’s next. By the end of the week, he’ll be accusing me of being a secret Communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten. I shared my peanut butter and jelly sandwich.”

Once again, we get the Obama oratorical fog. The problem isn’t what he does with his toys or sandwich, it’s what he sees as legitimate to do, under authority of government, with mine and yours.

“(McCain) has called me a socialist for wanting to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans so we can finally give tax relief to the middle class.”

Obama’s plans go much further than using the tax code to redistribute wealth.

He’s got about $700 billion in so-called refundable tax credits in mind, direct money transfers to individuals, to finance his social engineering ideas in education, child care, and environmental policy.”

Who says Jews are Smart?

By Jonathan Rosenblum

Virtually his whole public career has been closely intertwined with the unrepentant former Weatherman William Ayers.

Another member of Ayers’ Hyde Park circle was former PLO official and the current Edward Said Professor at Columbia University, Rashid Khalidi, whom Obama credits with opening his eyes to the plight of Palestinians. He has been heavily funded by the virulently anti-Israel George Soros. (link)

Obama has numerous ties to the Nation of Islam, in particular through Tony Rezko, the convicted, Syrian-born racketeer, who partly paid for Obama’s home.

Obama’s foreign policy advisors have included: Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor and thirty-year critic of Israel; Samantha Powers, who has called for an end to aid to Israel and the introduction of American forces to protect the Palestinians; and Robert Malley, who has made a career of advancing, together with a former Arafat advisor, a revisionist account in which Israel was responsible for the breakdown of Camp David.

I always like to throw in a little humor to lighten things up.  My daughter and her husband are standing in line in New Jersey to vote right at this moment.  Starbucks is offering free coffee today.  So here is her message to me:

Starbucks is giving away free coffee today if you say you voted.  So Tim tells the people in line just now, that the coffee is free if you voted, but if you voted Democrat you have to pay tax on it!

LOL!

If You’re Still Undecided, a little more on McCain and Obama

What an old anecdote about Mo Udall in the hospital reveals about McCain’s character.  (and Slate has not been kind to Republicans)

A nurse entered and seemed surprised to find anyone there, and it wasn’t long before I found out why: Almost no one visits anymore. In his time, which was not very long ago, Mo Udall was one of the most-sought-after men in the Democratic Party. Yet as he dies in a veterans hospital a few miles from the Capitol, he is visited regularly only by a single old political friend, John McCain. “He’s not going to wake up this time,” McCain said.

On the way out of the parking lot, McCain recalled what it was like to be a nobody called upon by a somebody. As he did, his voice acquired the same warmth that colored Russell Feingold’s speech when he described the first call from John McCain. “When you called Feingold … ” I started to ask him. But before I could, he interrupted. “Yeah,” he says, “I thought of Mo.”

Mark Steyn: Obama’s a better symbol than president

And why not? Obama in the White House, Obama on the dollar bill, Obama on Rushmore would symbolize the possibilities of America more than that narrow list of white-bread protestant presidents to date.

The problem is we’re not electing a symbol, a logo, a two-dimensional image. Long before he emerged on the national stage as Barack the Hope-Giver and Bringer of Change, there was a three-dimensional Barack Obama, a real man who lives in the real world. And that’s where the problem lies.

The senator and his doting Obots in the media have gone to great lengths to obscure what Barack Obama does when he’s not being a symbol: his voting record, his friends, his patrons, his life outside the soft-focus memoirs is deemed nonrelevant to the general hopey-changey vibe. But occasionally we get a glimpse. The offhand aside to Joe the Plumber about “spreading the wealth around” was revealing because it suggests a crude redistributive view of “social justice”. Yet the nimble Hope-a-Dope sidestepper brushed it aside, telling a crowd in Raleigh that next John McCain will be “accusing me of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten.”

***

Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates.

The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”

Having worked in politics, I know that absolutely none of this is on the level. This back and forth is posturing, a charade, and a political game. These lines are what I refer to as “hooker lines”—a sure thing to get applause and the press to scribble as if they’re reporting meaningful news.

As the nation slouches toward disaster, the level of political discourse is unworthy of this moment in history. We have Republicans raising Ayers and Democrats fostering ageism with “erratic” and jokes about Depends. Sexism. Racism. Ageism and maybe some Socialism have all made their ugly cameos in election 2008. It’s not inspiring. Perhaps this is why I found the initial mocking of Joe so offensive and I realized an old line applied: “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party; the Democratic Party left me.”

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #3 – Harry Reid D-Nevada

Harry Reid

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #3 – Harry Reid D-Nevada

Voters will be voting many members out of Congress that have failed us this year. I sincerely hope that these are among top priorities for American voters across the nation this election year.

Harry Reid
Senate Majority Leader

The Majority leader customarily serves as the chief representative and “face” of his or her party in Senate, and sometimes even in all of Congress if the House of Representatives and thus the office of Speaker of the House is controlled by the opposition party.

As much energy as Las Vegas uses, you wouldn’t think Nevada voters would elect a brainwashed eco-nut to such an influential position as a top legislator in the Senate.

Maybe he doesn’t know that certain “fossil fuels” like natural gas burn very clean in combustion engines. Maybe he is like Nancy Pelosi and doesn’t know that natural gas is a fossil fuel. Maybe he hasn’t heard of clean coal technology. Maybe he doesn’t realize that it takes a while to turn a big ship and we are going to be dependent on various fossil fuels for at least another decade in a transitional period as we advance cleaner and renewable energy sources.

One of his worst blunders was to prematurely wave a white flag of defeat in IRAQ:

Americans just can’t tolerate this kind of irresponsible Legislative leadership grinding down realistic economically viable energy plan progress and waving the white flag of surrender, interfering in International affairs.

Why do Americans keep electing energy ignorant representatives in legislative leadership roles during the middle of an energy crisis? You would think that his limited views of what it will take in the energy conversion interim would also be indicative of his lack of financial knowledge and budgetary foresight.

I am sure I can speak for the majority of Texans and many across the Nation when I ask Nevada Voters to fire Harry Reid and elect someone who will represent the rest of the Nation responsibly.

Harry Reid has a demonstrated deficit of knowledge and prowess in dealing with American energy solutions, the economy and International Affairs. Why would anyone reelect him to office?

He oozes “grey caulk” every time he speaks… The best think he could do for America is never speak in public again!

Harry Reid took $77,000 from Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae.

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #2 – Nancy Pelosi D-California

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #2 – Nancy Pelosi D-California

Voters will be voting many members out of Congress that have failed us this year. I sincerely hope that these are among top priorities for American voters across the nation this election year.

Nancy Pelosi
Speaker of The US House of Representatives

The Speaker of the House is second in line to assume the Presidency,  just behind the Vice President. Maybe California voters just didn’t know that when they elected her.

It’s beyond belief for most educated voters that a House Majority Leader could so ardently discourage Bi-Partisan voting on urgent issues in The House of Representatives and doesn’t know anything about energy and energy sources. How do representatives like Nancy Pelosi even get elected?

2 Heartbeats Away - Nancy Pelosi and Natural Gas

Can you imagine a President of the United States that doesn’t even know natural gas is a fossil fuel and has to be drilled for?

We are asking California voters to please keep in mind that Nancy Pelosi as President is just plain scary. In fact, Americans don’t need or want anyone in Congress who doesn’t have sound energy knowledge going forward.

Americans all over the country are asking California voters to fire Nancy Pelosi so that the country has a better chance at a reasonable energy policy. We can’t face the possibility of her ever assuming the Presidential role.

California, please spare the rest of the Nation of another term with an energy ignorant Congressional Leader by voting Nancy Pelosi out of office this year.

Nancy Pelosi took $56,250 from Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae.

Does a National Representative in Congress come any more pathetic than that?

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #1 – Barney Frank D-Massachusetts

Changes We Can Believe In – American Voters Hit List #1 – Barney Frank D-Massachusetts

Voters will be voting many members out of Congress that have failed us this year. I sincerely hope that these are among top priorities for American voters across the nation this election year

Barney Frank
Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee

Barney Frank has clearly let America down in a position which should have been instrumental in providing financial governance for our free market system. His inattention to primary fudiciary responsibilities in his position has caused All Americans a great deal of grief, yet he is not and will continue to not recognize his own failure:

O’Reilly Blasts Barney Frank On Fannie Mae Mess!!

From the Earl Henry Sholley for Congress Website:

Chairman Barney Frank blames the Republicans and the lack of regulation for the financial meltdown. He refuses to accept any culpability for the current crisis, and keeps making excuses for his role. He loudly denies any involvement in the mess, and even says that he tried to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Here is Barney Frank’s tax and spend mentality/solution:

“There are a lot of very Rich People to Tax down the road and recover some of this money.”:

Shame on Massachusetts voters if they don’t come out in droves and fire this pompous illiterate financial zombie who was supposed to be a primary gatekeeper for our financial systems!!!

Voters in Massachusetts should be ashamed to reelect Barney Frank to office.

Most of the rest of the Nation hopes that Massachusetts will support our best interests by firing Barney Frank and electing Sholley to Congress.

“I believe in less government, fewer taxes, term limits, and public service, not personal enrichment. I will only serve two terms. We have many serious problems that must be solved quickly such as high energy prices, illegal immigration, loss of jobs, the banking crisis, inflation, judicial activism, and protecting our citizens from those who would do us harm. Congress is not doing the Peoples’ will. This is not a time for humor, smart quips, or petty partisan politics. I believe in getting the job done. We need common sense and deliberate action. Where there is a will, there is a way. I want to get America moving again.”

Earl Henry Sholley

Barney Frank took $42,350 from Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae.

It Never Worked In The Past On Any Continent

A Perfect Storm

 by Thomas Sowell

Some elections are routine, some are important and some are historic. If Senator John McCain wins this election, it will probably go down in history as routine. But if Senator Barack Obama wins, it is more likely to be historic– and catastrophic.

Once the election is over, the glittering generalities of rhetoric and style will mean nothing. Everything will depend on performance in facing huge challenges, domestic and foreign.

Performance is where Barack Obama has nothing to show for his political career, either in Illinois or in Washington.

Sheila Jackson Lee and Ties to Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) link here

Our law enforcement agencies and the FBI have been torn by this failure to define an ideological enemy. At the same time that the FBI is testifying at the Holy Land Foundation trial as to how the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood’s Islamic supremacist goals, other parts of the FBI have been told to invite CAIR to provide training for the FBI on their views of Islam. CAIR also has provided “training” and guidance to DHS, TSA, Customs, and other law enforcement agencies. CAIR also attends meetings with an influential advisory panel on homeland security. The Investigative Project of Terrorism reports that “several members of Congress maintain close ties with CAIR” (Jim McDermott, Keith Ellison, Sheila Jackson Lee, Bill Pascrell, Dennis Kucinich). Such congressional representatives have no concerns about CAIR’s founder and Executive Director Nihad Awad as a documented supporter of the Hamas Islamic supremacist terrorist group. The American mainstream media frequently contacts CAIR to provide comments on news stories without providing context as to who and what they are - providing further public legitimacy for them. America has similar challenges with other groups associated with Islamic supremacism such as the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). CAIR and ISNA are unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation terror finance trial. The President of ISNA not only spoke at a national political party’s presidential convention, she also is on the U.S.-Muslim Engagement Project team calling for engagement with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Anything To Raise Funds 2

Save Talk Radio

“Congress is just 23 signatures away from a vote that could finally end the archaic Fairness Doctrine and create a permanent free-market system for talk radio. Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) continues to urge congress members to sign the Broadcaster Freedom Act discharge petition. The petition will “prevent the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from repromulgating the fairness doctrine,” originally initiated in the 1930s under Franklin Roosevelt.

During its glory days, the Fairness Doctrine was never applied to ensure conservatives’ air time. In fact, conservative voices were shunned while liberal bias seemed to mysteriously remain under the radar of the FCC. The Fairness Doctrine’s attempt at “fairness” created the most imbalanced media atmosphere possible. Or, some journalists simply avoided any coverage of controversial issues in order to avoid the nuisance of finding contrasting viewpoints on every issue raised in a story.”

As mentioned in the quote above the act dates back to the 1930’s.  Except for the Eisenhower anomaly, the democrats controlled congress for about 70 of those years.  Republicans controlled congress for a couple years during the Eisenhower administration, they got control again in 1994 after Clinton reneged on his campaign promise to not raise taxes.  The republicans lost control in 2006 because they spent like democrats.

So, setting aside the dozen or so years since the 1930’s that the republicans controlled congress let’s talk about the others.  The fairness doctrine allowed a democrat to get air time everytime a republican made a speech or ran an ad.  It annoyed me most of those years because I didn’t care about politics but wanted to watch my TV shows and relax to rebuild my energy for another work day.  Instead of a short speech or in the case of the State of the Union I got 2 lengthy speeches.  Also it gave the democrats the last word.

My recollection is that the followup speeches were free air time for the democrats.  Regardless that airtime kept them in front of the people not to get their message out but to attempt to poke holes in the preceding speech.

PENCE UNVEILS BILL TO PROHIBIT RETURN OF “FAIRNESS DOCTRINE” FOR TALK RADIO (link to article)
“There is Nothing Fair about the Fairness Doctrine”

“”The American people love a fair fight, especially where the issues of the day are debated. In a free market, fairness should be determined based upon equal opportunity, not equal results. As some voices are calling for Congress to enforce their idea of ‘fairness’ upon the American people, it would be good for us to proceed with caution whenever some would achieve their ‘fairness’ by limiting the freedom of others.

“Beginning in 1949, the Federal Communications Commission and its precursor developed and enforced the so-called Fairness Doctrine. The Fairness Doctrine required broadcasters to present controversial issues in a fair and balanced manner. However, because of the lack of clarity in the Commission’s ruling, broadcasters opted to offer non-controversial programming in lieu of hours of paperwork or countless legal fees.”

I recall a fictional TV series (The Senator Series) that ran on Sunday evenings back around 1970.  Hal Holbrook played a senior senator chairing a committee. It peaked my interest because it was so well done.  However, it pointed out some things congress didn’t like so the TV station was forced to kill the show.  It made me angry and it said that what Holbrook had been communicating was true.

The only TV station I watch for news is Fox News Channel.  My wife likes the local news so I get some exposure to other than Fox but the others don’t go into the same depth.  I pick up a lot of information not from Hannity or O’Reilly but from their guests.  Hannity, O’Reilly, Fox and Friends and the others that are on all day make available both sides of each story and present experts.  Or at least people who have above average information and understanding.  Karl Rove and Dick Morris have impressed me so much not only with what they say but how they say it I think they are truly professional.

Now radio: without Rush or Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham I would have no reason to listen to radio.  I found them before I retired and was a commuter.  I used to listen to NPR, their music was good but when they presented a political view on the taxpayers dollar I felt cheated.  I listened to NPR for many years before the alternatives were available.  Rush gave me insight and analysis that contradicted NPR but agreed with opinions I had formed over my lifetime.  He had better insight and more details as well.  Driving to work in the morning the selection available was limited so I listened to Laura Schlessinger.  She performs a necessary service to her listeners.

Talk radio fills a very necessary role.  The liberals have Air America (if its still on), NPR (taxpayer subsidized) and whatever else is available in other parts of the country.

Congress knows that if you are only exposed to the liberal point of view over and over you are possibly going to think their view is wonderful.  For sure it works for those who do not get information from more than one source.  The typical TV anchor doesn’t understand what he or she is reading on the air or is restricted by the TV station editors.  Rush, Hannity, Laura Ingraham et al can do the background research, take as much time as they want to explain an event and then have callers from all points of view critique them.  In my experience as long as a caller is polite, germaine to the current topic they let you listen to the caller personally state his/her question.  If these talk show hosts should be propagandists or just plain inaccurate too often they would lose my interest and probably other listeners as well (and airtime ad buyers).

I became interested in politics in the early 1980’s because of a lobbying effort my employer was involved in.  We were writing letters to representatives and senators to save our industry.  The whole concept woke me up.  I think I also had more time available in the evenings to read and follow political events.  Prior to that I was in the military, then college, then I worked lots of overtime building my career.  As I mentioned  Hal Holbrook also got my attention.  Killing talk radio would be totalitarian and a major disservice to the American people.  It would once again lead to decade after decade of democrat control of both houses of congress.

Ann Coulter recently remarked about an Obama statement “If it weren’t for talk radio I would be 3 points higher in the polls.”  Her comment was that if it wasn’t for CNN, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, etc. he would be 10 points behind.  I agree with her.

In 1993 I learned about the existence of Rush.  In one of his broadcasts just around the time I started listening to him he talked about “Bias Jobs”.  He explained that the Bureau of Labor Statistics has an estimated number that they use to take seasonal swings out of quarter to quarter comparisons.  It would be like adding some jobs to the employed figures to take into account hurricanes Ike and Katrina.  Employment had to decrease since workplaces were destroyed.  If you wanted to compare quarter to quarter figures to judge national economic policies you have to make an adjustment.  Rush’s point at the time was that the BLS was inflating bias jobs so that when subtracted from the total workforce, unemployed was lower than reality.   When you look at the link I provided earlier this week to the BLS employment charts you see 4% around 1993, 1994 that may not be accurate.  Another thing I learned from Rush was the significance of the minimum wage.  Congress doesn’t really get excited about burger flippers and shelve stockers.  These are usually recent high school graduates building a work history or earning money to assist with college expenses.  The real significance of minimum wage is that union contracts are based on it.  A journeyman plumber may be paid by a formula that is 10 times the minimum wage. So when the burger flipper gets a $.50 an hour increase, the union plumber gets a $5.00 an hour increase.  The percent coming out of the union members paycheck for union benefits and dues goes up enough to make a difference.

A little while ago this morning I heard a guest on Fox News say that as a result of Republican policies during the great depression Roosevelt stayed in office for a decade and a half.  Maybe as a result of the Fairness doctrine Roosevelt stayed in office.  Radio and newspapers were the only means of communication and in early 1930’s average working people probably couldn’t afford either of them.  I read economists on the Ludwig Von Mises website tear apart the Roosevelt policies of the 1930’s (they are Libertarian but reading them made me braoden my perspective).  In summary I think killing talk radio would be morally criminal and deprive Americans of knowledge they wouldn’t get elsewhere.

Since I was so long winded in this post, I’ll address your other concerns in another post.

If It Redistributes Like a Duck…

“If It Redistributes Like a Duck…”:

Friday, October 31, 2008

By: David Harsanyi

Obama is first ever presidential candidate to call for redistribution.

Barack Obama is going to fix the economy by “spreading the wealth around”?

Now, I’m not attempting to demonize Obama, God forbid. It’s just that, as we all know, that’s what Obama told Joe the Plumber.

Obama laughs off the charge of socialist behavior — and to be fair, socialism isn’t the precise term to affix to his ideas. It’s more like Robin Hood economics. On a recent campaign stop, Obama joked that by the end of the week, McCain would be accusing him “of being a secret communist because I shared my toys in kindergarten.”

A funny line. But of course, Obama’s lofty intellect must comprehend the fundamental difference between sharing your GI Joe with a friend and having a bully snatch your GI Joe for the collective prepubescent good. It’s the difference between coercion and free association and trade. In practical terms, it’s the difference between government cheese and a meal at Ruth’s Chris.

Now, I’m not suggesting Obama intends to transform this nation into 1950s-era Soviet tyranny or that he will possess the power to do so. I’m suggesting Obama is praising and mainstreaming an economic philosophy that has failed to produce a scintilla of fairness or prosperity anywhere on earth, ever.

Concerns About the Proposed Airport Slot Auction

Recently John Faulk received a letter by a concerned employee at Continental Airlines asking for help in making sure that Congress immediately act against the proposed Airline Slot Auction being pushed by the Bush Administration. I have republished the letter below as well as a press release; “US Airport Slot Auctions Illegal And Unjustified” published by the IATA (International Air Transport Association) to help make air travelers aware of the potential problems associated with this proposed action.

Dear Mr. Faulk:

I am pleased to endorse you in the upcoming election and would like to address an issue that needs immediate attention and hope you can help.

As an employee for Continental Airlines I want you to ensure that Congress passes legislation this year to prohibit the DOT from implementing the illegal, ill-timed and destructive slot auction proposal.

Continental Airlines has spent billions of dollars building our hub at Newark and serving 157 cities worldwide from Liberty International Airport. Yet, the Bush Administration is planning to confiscate airline slots at the three New Jersey/New York airports this fall and then sell those slots to the highest bidder on January 12, 2009 - just eight days before the new President takes office.

The Bush Administration has proposed to sell slots at Newark because they want to draw attention away from their failure to reduce delays and congestion in NJ/NY over the last eight years.

Instead of allocating the operational, financial and personnel resources needed to run an efficient Air Traffic Control system, the Administration proposes to raise more money by taking away airline slots and selling them to the highest bidder. Obviously, that plan won’t reduce delays. It will simply mean that delays will continue but passengers will pay higher fares and smaller cities will lose access to NJ/NY.

With the economy in crisis, the slot auction proposal could not come at a worse point in time for airlines and their employees - the DOT must be stopped by Congress.

The Congress and U.S. General Accounting Office have determined that the DOT does not have the authority to take our slots and sell them. The only way to stop them is if Congress passes a statute this year to prevent this illegal action.

Please tell the Leadership today that the slot auction prohibition must be included in the stimulus bill or any other bill this November - Congress must act now or it will be too late for us, for our customers and for dozens of small communities around the country.

Thank you for your time and hope to seat you in my District. We need a leader and someone to listen to “We The People”.

Sincerely;

(Airline employee name and position witheld for privacy)

Republished Press Release:
US Airport Slot Auctions Illegal And Unjustified” published by the IATA (International Air Transport Association) to help make air travelers aware of the potential problems associated with this proposed action.

US Airport Slot Auctions Illegal And Unjustified

Washington - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) condemned the final rule issued today by the Bush Administration, which allows the government to confiscate and auction airport take-off and landing slots at New York’s airports as an ineffective and illegal way to alleviate flight delays.

“Today’s decision is incredibly disappointing. Rather than addressing the root-causes of congestion at New York’s airports, the Bush Administration is spending its last days in office single-mindedly pursuing an alleged free-market experiment at some of the globe’s most important aviation gateways,” said Giovanni Bisignani, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

“The Department of Transportation (DOT) is out of touch with reality. Substantially raising airline costs with an illegal scheme in the middle of a perfect storm of high oil prices and falling demand makes no sense. Consumers, airlines, airports and local communities all stand to lose from today’s decision,” said Bisignani.

Slot confiscation is almost universally opposed. “DOT has made it abundantly clear that it will ignore the nearly universal opposition to this slot confiscation plan by the international airline and airport community as well as the U.S. Congress. The U.S. Government Accountability Office has already concluded it is an illegal scheme. The industry is now forced to use the U.S. judicial system to get the Government to accept its own advice,” said Bisignani.

Proven methods to manage congestion exist. “DOT ignored 60 years of internationally accepted and proven slot management procedures contained in the IATA Worldwide Scheduling Guidelines (WSG). Over 140 airports around the world use these guidelines to effectively manage congestion while maintaining a level playing field for airlines to compete,” said Bisignani.

Notes for Editors:
IATA represents some 230 airlines comprising 93% of scheduled international traffic
IATA’s WSG is a global standard that has been employed successfully for 60 years and is currently followed at 140 Level 3 airports worldwide.

Comments On Today’s News

Another view on why the stock markets are so bad  Wall St Journal article you should see.

Obama and the Politics of Crowds

“On the face of it, there is nothing overwhelmingly stirring about Sen. Obama. There is a cerebral quality to him, and an air of detachment. He has eloquence, but within bounds. After nearly two years on the trail, the audience can pretty much anticipate and recite his lines. The political genius of the man is that he is a blank slate. The devotees can project onto him what they wish. The coalition that has propelled his quest — African-Americans and affluent white liberals — has no economic coherence. But for the moment, there is the illusion of a common undertaking — Canetti’s feeling of equality within the crowd…”

Obama and “The Left”

“Although Senator Barack Obama has been allied with a succession of far left individuals over the years, that is only half the story. There are, after all, some honest and decent people on the left. But these have not been the ones that Obama has been allied with– allied, not merely “associated” with.

A candidate who spends two decades promoting polarization and then runs as a healer and uniter, rather than a divider, forfeits all trust by that fact alone.”

He Was Leading IN “57″ States A Few Weeks Ago

AP Poll: Obama leads or tied in 8 crucial states. Yahoo! article here

Article here:  ACORN Owes Millions in Taxes

“An intrepid researcher has discovered more than 200 tax liens totaling more than $3.7 million have been filed by the government against the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now for unpaid taxes since the late eighties.”

Obama just said on TV that we may think he is a communist for sharing his toys in kindergarten.  Actually we may think he is a communist for taking the other childrens’ toys.  Don’t Kindergartens actually own the toys, its been so long since I or my kids went to Kindergarten I can’t remember.

One of the hypothetical questions being asked in an ad on TV is who would you want to wake up and find out is President on November 5th.

If Charlie Rangel gets his way and a military draft call-up is implemented, which President would you want to serve under?

I just heard that the Fed interest rate cut today is the lowest its been since the Eisenhower Administration in the 1950s.  I was about 10 years old then.  My parents and my sisters and I lived better than ever before and ever since.  My mother was a high school graduate but my father wasn’t.  He did however go to night school to get an equivalent education.  My point though is they were not college graduates but inflation was low, interest rates were low and we lived more comfortably than we could have imagined.  Because of low interest rates we were able to have a car and a television.  No one else on our street had either in the early 1950s.  When a neighbor needed a ride to a hospital or doctor my parents took them.  We lived in a suburb of Philadelphia.  The key to the wonderful economics then was very low inflation.  Also as the evil villain Donald Rumsfeld once said in a speech, the USA was the only country that could export goods.  Our factories still functioned.  Most of Europe and Asia had been destroyed by Europeans and Asians.  We joined the war in the last few years and helped out.  We also helped rebuild them both after the war.

The market reaction to the 1% interest rate has been mixed because no one knows what the effects will be.  In the previous paragraph I was trying to show that it could be good. My oldest sister and her husband bought a house with a 2% mortgage in the late 1950s.  She still lives in it today.  She paid $12,000 in 1950’s dollars.

I heard late yesterday that the stock market dropped just before closing again because someone issued a false report about a large company.

Obama To Spread the Wealth Around to Needy Rivals (Scrappleface does satire)

(2008-10-25) — Coming off a month in which his campaign raised a record-breaking $150 million, Sen. Barack Obama announced today that he would voluntarily redistribute his cash to his presidential rivals including Libertarian Bob Barr, Independent Ralph Nader, Green Party pick Cynthia McKinney and even Republican John McCain, who has struggled to make ends meet while running on public assistance.

Breaking News Item: I wonder if George Soro’s accountant is upset about a $150 million unidentified out of balance condition in the records. (just being sarcastic)

Dick Morris on O’Reilly last night: If the healthcare system is expanded to include 47 million Americans who currently don’t have health insurance who is going to treat them.  He also mentioned that the 47 million figure politicians use includes illegal aliens. (Whether or not we provide for them is a moral issue not germaine to this election at this time)  Also among the 47 million are young people in the 20 to 40 age range who don’t want health insurance because 12 monthly premiums greatly exceeds the fee for service they can pay for a flu shot or rare doctor visit.  I’m not going to go in depth on services currently available to the poor because we covered that in at least two previous posts.

However the limited medical service provider issue is relevant and something I hadn’t thought about.  When you provide taxpayer funded healthcare to 47 million more people, people who didn’t go to the doctor for routine illnesses and cuts and bruises now start going.  As I mentioned when I was a kid  my family never went to a doctor for anything.  When my dad’s employer began offering health insurance as an employee benefit we started going every time we had something  more than the common cold.

Other families did as well.  That is when doctors’ fees and hospital costs started rising.  Demand drove prices up.  An individual might not have wanted to pay, but if an insurance company was paying, why not use it.  As an adult I watched co-workers take their kids to a doctor for things I never would have.  So if the supply of medical service providers remains the same we have to go to rationing.  If the government sets an artificial or bureaucratic price on fees then it becomes unprofitable for doctors.

It costs a doctor a couple hundred thousand to go to medical school.  He also has to pay for malpractice insurance and all of the diagnostic equipment in his office as well as staff.  I went to a doctor this week for a foot problem.  He had at least 6 staff in his office,  medical and clerical.  He has to bill for insurance coverage payments, schedule appointments, provide for accounting and bank deposits for his office.  He had a medical professional prepare my foot for minor surgery which I hadn’t anticipated when I went  into his office.

If the government tells him he cannot charge a fee adequate to cover all of his professional expenses and include enough for his personal residence, auto and family expenses why go to medical school and incur the costs.

We then go to a rationing basis as in Europe and Canada.  Now, Canadians come here.  Europeans go to Africa on vacation for medical treatment.  Where will we go!

One last comment.  I didn’t watch the 30 minute Obama infomercial last night but I saw clips in the news.  Obama said he will put a 90 day moratorium on mortgage payments.  Will that increase the ability of the homeowner to resume his  payments monthly when the moratorium expires.  What affect will it have on the mortgage companies not receiving cash during that period and not collecting the interest which is the life blood of their business.  It is the interest that enables them to pay their bills.
