The Only Time I Was Ever Ashamed to be an American
I’m 53 yrs old now and I feel compelled to convey the story about the only time in my life that I was ashamed to be an American:
I worked 25 years in the Oil & Gas Industry and had reached a level as Engineer in a prestigious marketing position for one of the world’s top Oil & Gas Service Companies.
Much to my future wife’s distain I was doing month long marketing tours across world regions promoting an innovative new product I was in charge of.
This particular tour was “Asia Pacific” and included many countries. Cutting a long story short, I was coming off the Island of Borneo, had just left Kuala Lumpur and had arrived in Australia when the news broke of the Bill Clinton – Monica Lewinski affair and the “mess” they’d made of the “Ovary Office”.
You Bet – I was embarrassed to be an American at that moment.
Ask yourself why most “infidelity” scandals involving our legislators are predominantly perpetrated by Democrats.
I did not like being placed in the position of representing the US as the Democrats cast us into that “Laughing Stock” role”!

Candidate views represented above are presented true and accurately as best I know. Make sure and bookmark this page because this table may change as we wind down to election day, most everyone seems to be “flip-flopping” this year, except John.

Sarah Palin is being heavily assaulted in the media since she was chosen as Vice Presidential running mate for John McCain.
Much of the unjustified assault in the media is coming from women. I am not sure why Democrat women who are renowned for their fight for women’s rights and progress have turned on their fellow women with the vehemence in which they have.
What’s wrong with a family unit where Sarah’s husband, Todd has already stepped up to the plate, playing a leading roll in family management? Todd already put his Oil Industry job behind him. What’s wrong with a “stay at home dad” when his wife’s career takes off?
A couple weeks ago we celebrated ”Women’s Sufferage Week”. I thought that all that “bra-burning history” from the 70s and talk about “breaking the glass ceiling” since then, was real.
But here we are today with Democrat women including Iconic Figures like Oprah Winfrey fighting American women’s launch right through the “glass ceiling”. Is that hypocracy, politics, prejudice, or a combination of any 3, or all of the above?
That’s a question American women have to answer for themselves this election year.
Florida women have answered that question already, and I expect many will follow their lead:
Florida Women’s Group Boycotts The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Have women become more sexist than men? Why are American women acting to prevent Sarah Palin… the Palin’s with full support of her husband Todd… Why would any red blooded American woman give up the fight for a complete and final shattering of the glass ceiling, when it’s clearly within reach?

Unfortunately my son (23) comes from a broken home, as I did and many of us do.
Not long ago he announced plans to marry his long time sweetheart (a sweet angel). They also had their eyes on an expensive townhouse just before the mortgage collapse. Fortunately, both myself and his future father-in-law worked separately and convinced them not to cast themselves into that mire.
On top of that, this will be an expensive formal “storybook” wedding in difficult financial times where an old crusty codger like me might prefer they spend any and all affluence toward a starter home like they might do back in the times of “Leave it to Beaver” and “Father Knows Best”.
And more on top of that, the rehersal dinner is now planned for 60 or so, well exceeding immediate family, encroaching on what a rehersal dinner aught to be; an intimate and private ceremony for immediate family only.
When expressing my concerns there to my son’s biological grandmother (my mother), wisdom prevailed when she convinced me that although it may not weigh in heavily on the practical side, it will be a beautiful ceremony extolling the sanctity of marriage between a man and woman in a time when that union is under attact from some factions. She went on noting that especially for a couple to make those expenditures in difficult economic times further extends their individual and cohesive commitment to express their vows to each other publicly in an unforgettable manner, honoring that sacred union with their best.
I suppose I have good material for the “Father of the Groom” toast now come May 17th, 2008.
